The Emperor

The-EmperorThe Emperor sits his throne in regal splendor. Upon his head is the crown of laurel leaves symbolizing his ancient right to rule. The masculine forceful energy of the card is seen in the guards behind the King, alert with their swords raised. In the background is the King’s castle, secure and safe; an emblem of his right to Rule. Fire burns near his feet creating warmth in the room. His throne sits on a mosaic of stone, keeping him connected with the earth. Water is symbolized in the blue lines of his throne while the air floats up in wavy lines beyond his castle. The Emperor rules with confidence and strength. He has earned his place and is secure in his throne. However, he knows he must defend his place of power because there are always those who will want to take it from him. The Emperor speaks of being prepared (as indicated by the guards in the background). The Emperor looks to the side in a somewhat Machiavellian way – looking without looking. Seeing without calling attention to himself, the Emperor is prepared.

When the Emperor appears in your spread he brings with him the blessings (or curses) of worldly power. He rules with confidence and creates stability. It is through his strength of will that he has carved his Empire. He can only hold it through dedicated service to the people he rules. If he shows weakness his people will suffer. If he is incapable of rule it will soon be taken from him. The Emperor calls you to enjoy your successes, but as you do ensure that you consolidate the victories you have already achieved before pursuing more.
